PakTech: 100% Recycled HDPE

The Need: Sustainable packaging. Not only is recycled plastic sustainable, but it’s the sustainable solution. Provided it already exists, that is. That’s why we use 100% recycled and recyclable HDPE, so we can reuse the plastic we already have indefinitely.

The Solution: HDPE stands for high-density polyethylene, the same material used to make milk jugs. HDPE is strong, sturdy, flexible, non-toxic and food safe. It is one of the most widely collected and recycled materials and is indefinably recyclable. After extensive testing and for the reasons above, PakTech chose 100% recycled and recyclable HDPE as the preferred material for their sustainable packaging handles. Our recycled content is certified by SCS Global Services.

What makes it particularly smart or circular? Made from 100% bottle-grade recycled material, aka waste.  Throughout all aspects of development, PakTech focuses on a sustainable approach by preserving the reduce, reuse and recycle format across every business decision. This means that sustainability is not merely a guiding principle but truly underpins the whole production cycle of PakTech packaging solutions. At PakTech, we believe environmentally friendly manufacturing is the key to a brighter, more sustainable future. By incorporating maximum sustainability into our work culture, business practices, and products, we strive to fulfill our collective responsibility in protecting the environment so it will be there for future generations.

Results, Benefits, and Outcomes to Date: Since 2012, PakTech has repurposed over half a billion gallon-sized milk jugs into new packaging handles, keeping roughly 80 million pounds out of the waste stream. Manufacturing our products with 100% recycled and recyclable material generates 78% less greenhouse gases, uses 90% less energy, and reduces virgin petroleum production by 100%. And after they’ve been used, PakTech handles can be recycled again – we’ve partnered with more than 500 businesses to establish dedicated recycling sites, so our handles can live again as park benches, planter pots, and new PakTech products.
