The Need: As we come out of two years of pandemic life, we are seeing people shift their focus to reduce their environmental impact. We have been seeing that people are more and more aware of all of the packaging waste they are creating, especially as they get more packaging shipped to their homes.
The Solution: Palmolive Shake & Clean Eco-Friendly Dish Soap results in 75% less plastic per refill by allowing users to reuse an existing bottle instead of buying a new 20oz bottle.
It’s as easy as filling, pouring and shaking:
Just fill the bottle with water to the line, add the gel from the pouch, and shake it for a new bottle of dish soap. The 4x concentrated formula activates instantly when water gets added to the 5oz gel to yield a 20oz bottle of soap.
The 100% biodegradable cleaning ingredients are tough on grease, gentle on the planet.
The starter kit is available at Walmart and includes one reusable dish soap bottle that is made from 100% recycled plastic and one dish soap refill pouch.
Which of the Pact’s 4 Targets does your work help achieve? TARGET 2: 100% of plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025 and TARGET 4: By 2025, the average recycled content or responsibly sourced bio-based content in plastic packaging will be 30%.
What makes it particularly smart or circular? Palmolive Shake & Clean encourages a circular economy for plastic packaging by encouraging the reuse of existing plastic bottles instead of throwing them away.
The key to this product is that our technology team created a magical product usage experience where the concentrated gel reconstitutes instantly and is effective at cutting grease.
Results, Benefits, and Outcomes to Date: What were the successes as a company and/or as a team, or lessons learned/key takeaways?
Our biggest key learning was the value of having a great partner in Walmart. Walmart combines knowledge in the space from other categories with the scale and desire to really make an impact. By partnering with Walmart we are able to bring a breakthrough technology to the market in a smart way where we can provide education and support. It is the first step of a multiyear learning and pivoting journey together.
How are you communicating your success? Internally, with consumers, suppliers, users of your innovation, etc.
We are primarily focused on communicating in Walmart stores and tying into timings that resonate with eco-conscious consumers like Earth Day.
What’s Next? Once the product velocities increase we will explore scaling it and expanding it in the market.
Roadblocks & Lessons Learned: Focus on the product reconstitution experience and driving trial.

Quote: “If you can crack the code on creating a great product experience that reconstitutes quickly and is still effective, it’s a win for people and a win for the planet by allowing packaging reuse,” said Joana Baquero.
